An exploration of everything to do with London; from the city's history and transport, to tales of true crime and more.... and every now and then I'll be exploring other parts of the UK too!
Goldfinger's Trellick Tower
The Trellick Tower, which is located close to Portobello Road, is one of London's most distinctive 20th Century landmarks- and one of its most controversial too!
In this video, we'll be looking at the story of both the Trellick Tower and the architect behind it: Erno Goldfinger (and yes! There is indeed a James Bond connection)...

The general public can use them too .. fantastic food… value for money..
With regard to your comment on Exploring Isambard Kingdom Brunel's London which said "Marc's concept remains in use today " is incorrect. His design was modified by James Henry Greathead. Wikipedia states "the Greathead Shield was possibly derived from Marc Isambard Brunel's original patented 1818 idea and erroneously was accorded by Robert Vogel to have been inspired by Peter W. Barlow's 1864 patent that led to Barlow's 1868 provisional patent. However there were considerable design differences that make Greathead's patented designs distinguishable from Brunel's provisional patent idea, allowing a patent application for Greathead's design".
Thank You, I really enjoyed that.
Thank you so much Robert. Stay well.
2 willow rd looks like dodgy council flats

Increasingly the source is the bumholes of Londoners, Thames and West Water customers,.. no processing required
I really enjoyed watching this documentary ❤

@@Robslondon ah this in relation 9:40 where the tagline/catch phrase to convince the public
It never occurred to me there would be different properties on game boards in other countries. Guess I am an ugly American after all.
Not at all! Don’t forget, the USA made the ORIGINAL version 😉
217 apartments * £900’000 each = £195 million. Less than John Caudwell’s Mayfair renovation.
😬
Craig's Square would be a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of the madness that is the heart of London ... if only there were benches or some place to sit and do so. As it is, it is just a hole in the middle of the city. I am sure that the surrounding buildings are great for cutting down on the noise, but a place to rest one's feet would be nice, too.
Yes- couldn’t agree more.
Twinings Australian Breakfast is my go to. I have a box next to my kettle at home and one in my pigeonhole at work.

🙄
Thank you Rob....... most excellent.
Much appreciated, thank you!
Do those sirens still work or do we not have a warning mechanism any more?
They don't work, no... I believe the main warning system now relies on mobile phone alerts
This documentary leaves me wanting more. It explores some tributaries or streams of the Thames, illustrating their role in the river's life, but it doesn't dig into the source points of these streams. This leaves the origins of the Thames' water a bit mysterious.
Sorry Rishi ;-)
The first accident by a self propelled vehicle was in 1770, when Joseph Cugnot's "Fardier à vapeur" ran into a wall. Amazingly, the machine was preserved and is exhibited in the Arts et metiers museum in Paris. And the boiler does have a pew bumps on it, lending credence to the claims of it crashing into a wall.
Ah! Would love to see that
@Robslondon Arts et metiers is a mindblowing collection, they have focaults actual pendulum, Pascal's actual calculators, etc etc etc.
@@RegebroRepairs Thank you. I love Paris so will be sure to go there someday.
On 04 May 1979, I was in the crowd in front of No10 to see Thatcher take office and hear her Assisi speech! Great feature on Downing St, Rob
Wow! Cheers Nigel
If the mead is dry in the summer, then where does the water come from? Only the tributaries? Like, is it dry up until the point they meet?
Good point 🤔
The building is pure Art. From that area .. iconic

you had me at little gnome like man
😄
Rob this is just splendid. Touching, inspiring, and like everything you do, cobtextualizing. You just make me want to return to London over and over.
Your kind words mean a lot to me, thank you so much. Hope you make it back here soon! 😄
Another proper shit architect from that era. It's funny talking with people from former Yugoslavia who wonder why our buildings are more "typical communist architecture" than their home country 😂
Not a fan then? 😂
That was beautiful🥰 💚really showcasing our green and pleasant land 💚 and making me mighty homesick 🐾
Beautiful comment, thank you ☺️
The Clifton Bridge was not started until after Brunel's death. It was designed and overseen by; William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw
Yes, I mention in the video that Brunel never got to see it

The thames starts underneath stonehenge in a tunnel that they use as a road now.
🤔
Lovely video, very relaxing. Only complaint is that the close up shots of flowing water look very glitchy. Rendering the video in a higher resolution, even if it's just upscaled, would likely have helped against that (I'm guessing it's youtube compression that did it, and that the raw footage is a lot cleaner)
Thanks, I’m limited by my equipment; all shot on a phone.
@@Robslondon What is the bitrate your phone's video saves at? Usually you can select it from the settings in the camera app. Higher bitrate is better for the quality, but will cost more space of course.
@@MaxArceus Not sure... .will have to look into it!
Loved this, the music choices were great too 😊
